Great hotel for Rome City break

The Romanico was a lovely hotel. The location is excellent with plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants within walking distance. It is also ideally placed for the Villa Borgese, and is close to bus stops and the metro. The decor is very ornate, not to everyone's taste but if you've picked this hotel you know what you are getting, we loved it! The staff were all lovely, friendly and helpful. The breakfast room was stunning with views across the city, and the food was lovely, plenty of choice of cereals, pastries, cold meats, fruits and juices. Only downside was no orange juice, you must pay if you want this, but they had peach and pear so did not effect us really. The bar area was a hit, much bigger than we anticipated and the staff were delightful. They had a singer on one day who was brilliant, and they do cocktails as well as standard drinks. we stayed in a triple room and that was lovely, plenty of space. Air con worked brilliantly, good water pressure in the bathroom, lots of toiletries and a mini bar. The only downside of the room was there was no view from the window. This hotel was a very pleasant venue, no complaints of note and definitely would stay here again.

Okay but not great

First of all, the staff are friendly and the hotel is in a good location. Also the air-con was a life saver. However, I don't think this hotel should be classed as a 4 star, more like a 3 star. The decor looks great from afar, but once close it's very tacky. The bathroom in our room absolutely stank of sewage the entire duration of our stay. When we told reception they did come in and the smell went away for a few hours but then came back. It was so bad one night it even woke us up!! The sockets by the bed didn't work, out of 4 none of them worked. The wifi was very poor but we can live with that. I think if the bathroom smell hadn't been so bad it might not have been such a bad experience but I would not return to this hotel for that reason alone.

We enjoyed our stay at Romanico. It is not 5 star but very good and you don’t spend much time in your room anyway. Staff was extremely friendly and location was great. Walking distance to a number of restaurants and attractions and a 24 hour stand across the street sold a little of everything including wine and liquor. Prices were higher than the markets but the convenience could not be beat. Breakfast each morning was very good as well and included. Only drawback is that coffee is not available prior to breakfast at 7am. For early tours we had to leave prior. Very comfortable bed although a bit firm. Small bar in the lobby as well.

A traditional hotel with charming rooms, lovely staff, great breakfast and in a great area only 10 mins from the Spanish steps.. surrounded by palaces and embassies. A lovely roof terrace for breakfast, ornate, clean rooms and very welcoming staff… they even let us checkin early and leave late with no extra charge.

The building was the home of a 16th century nobleman---with papal insignia's on some of frescos I wonder the connection--perhaps a cardinel. I wish the hotel had provided more information about this historic structure. But the place is really pretty, marble flooring, art work, a glass floor area by the bar showing some of the original structure. We had a lovely triple room on the 6th floor with a small terrace looking out over the city. No kleenex (haha!) but a very comfortable and well appointed room. A very nice breakfast buffet is served each morning up on the 7th floor. Entertainment most nights in the bar/lounge area. Very friendly staff with good English. Not as centrally located to the main sites of Rome as I would have liked but easy taxi ride and in a nice neighborhood for dining
